COST OF FOOD at the supermarkets (and the small markets in the islands) in Greece, is slightly higher compared to the cost in bigger European cities.
(Examples: At the Greek islands’ supermarket a kilo of fresh tomatoes is at 1.5 Euro, one lettuce is at 0.75-1.5 Euro, 500 grams of fresh bread is at 1.5 Euro, Gouda (yellow) cheese is at 10 Euro per kilo, 330ml can of Coca_Cola is at 1 Euro.
HAVING DINNER OUT in a local restaurant / “taverna” with 1 appetizer, 1 main course, proportion of a “shared” salad and bottled wine of moderate quality, will cost you 20-35 Euro per person. In more detail, a Greek salad (which is enough for 3 people as a “side plate”) costs 6-10 Euro, a b.b.q.ed pork steak served with french fries is at about 10-15 Euro, an appetizer plate like fried zucchini is at 4-6 Euro and an average red sec bottled Greek wine costs 15-25 Euro).
It is difficult to give food cost estimation, but as a guideline we consider that 8 adult guests on sailing holidays in Greece, will spend around Euro 700 for yachts provisioning (breakfast and lunch) + Euro 1000 at restaurants which makes a total of Euro 1700 during the whole week. That means approximately 200-220 per person in average (revised Jan 2014).
