The prevailing winds in the Centre of the CYCLADES Group of islands are blowing from the North and they are often quite strong. Motor yachts are sometimes stuck in port. Sailing yachts can sail easier under rough weather conditions even upwind from Paros to Mykonos island. Same applies for the “leg” Santorini upwind to Iraklia/Schinoussa/Koufonissia and for this reason it is recommendable that the charter yachts stay moored in Ios island and the guests/groups longing to see Satorini island take the local day-trip boat or the ferry to Santorini island. Another reason that charter yachts do not often reach Santorini is that the only docking place is Vlychada fishing village at the south coast of the island which is a very small place, with limited facilities for the yachts, about 20 min taxi ride away from Santorini town (Fira or Thira), where most times there is no free dock space.
