The island of Mykonos -picturesque, bright and white- is subject to high winds and rough seas on a fairly regular basis in the summer, and many times there is no dock space available for charter yachts in the new marina situated a couple of miles North of the old ferry harbor.
The sailing yachts are the only vessels permitted by the authorities to sail when the strong North NorthWest Meltemi wind is blowing. It is said wise to have an alternative plan in mind if Mykonos is on your itinerary.
Mykonos is the ultimate party island that attracts the rich & famous. Restaurants, bars, night life and even beach bars, sunbeds and umbrellas are expensive. The island is still beautiful, its beaches are among the best in the Mediterranean, the old port/town with its twisty, narrow lanes and alleyways are a charm. The cluster of restaurants and bars around the harbor promise a wild kind of night life in the Cyclades.
Before or after a Mykonos night, spending a day or a few hours on anchor in Rinia nearby island is not to be missed.
Delos island is a small flat piece of land near Mykonos full of ancient ruins of the famous 2,500-years-old Greek civilization. There is no jetty available for sailboats, only day trip boats from Mykonos can approach, though Delos island can be possible to visit by anchoring a little bit farther and by taking the boat’s dinghy to the shore.
