Aegina (Αίγινα), laying some 17 nautical miles of the coast of Attika (Athens) is a hilly agriculture island that had served as a holiday resort for many prestigious Athenians. With a population of less than 14k it is also widely known of its pistachio nuts (Pistachios Aegina’s) which exports.

Being in the entrance for Athens through port Piraeus, Aegina thrived with trade during the 6th and 5th century BC. Now In recent years it has become increasingly popular with sailors as the resting place for the first night in the Saronic Gulf.

Aegina harbor is the main anchorage for Aegina where you can spend the night on the main town with its seafood restaurants and gifts shop. Furthermore Perdika or Agia Marina can offer a more quite experience, but keep in mind that piers (if any) are small and spaces are limited.

There are several beaches around the island besides Agia Marina, Perdika and Aegina’s town beach like Moni island beach, Marathonas beach, Souvala beach and Kamares beach that are sandy and rocky or in combination of the two.
